Hinoki (chamaecyparis obtusa)

Hinoki, chamaecyparis obtusa, also known as Japanese Cypress, is loved by the Japanese for hundreds of years. Its wood has been used to build shrines and spiritual architecture since ancient Japan, many of which are still standing. Japanese bath tubs are usually made from the wood as it is rot resistent. During the bath, heat from the water releases its essential oils creating a soothing and peaceful bath experience.
