Lantana belongs to one of the 150 species of perennial flowering plants in the verbena family native to tropical regions of the Americas and Africa. It’s aromatic flower clusters (called umbels) are a mix of red, orange, yellow, or blue and white florets. Butterflies are said to love these aromatic and colourful florets which attract hordes of them when they are in full bloom. The essential oil is steam distilled from its leaves, since its flowers are poisonous, which is used mainly in perfume creations.
