For centuries, the leaves of the jasmine plant have been used in Ayurvedic herbal medicine while its flowers adorn the coiffure of women all over the Middle Eastern kingdoms. Today, the essential oil of jasmine is an indispensible ingredient in the perfume industry. It is known as the King of Essential Oils due to its indolic and animalic aroma. Of the 43 species of jasmine, only two, jasminum grandiflorum and jasminum sambac, are cultivated for their essential oils.
